Top:
I designed this from the bottom up and I worked in the round.
Round 1: Ch 70, sl st tog to form a ring. Be careful not to twist. In BLO, Ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2dc all in the same st. *Skip 3 sts, 2dc-ch2-2dc in the next st. Repeat from * around. Sl st tog.
Round 2: Sl st to ch 2 sp from previous round, Ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2dc in that ch 2 sp. * Skip over to next ch 2 sp, 2dc-ch2-2dc in that sp. Repeat from * around. Sl st tog.
Round 3: Repeat Round 2.
Round 4: Ch 1, sc in each st around, do 3 chs in ch 2 spaces. Sl st tog. Fasten off and weave in end.
Now go to the Round 1, work this round in the loops not worked from the first round.
I will call this round, Round 5: Attach yarn with a sl st, ch 3, dc in each st around. (I had 72 dc including ch 3)
Round 6: Ch 2, hdc in each st around. Sl st tog.
Rounds 7-8: Repeat Round 6.
This gets harder for me to explain....Round 9: Ch 1, sl st in next 21 sts, sc in the next 14sts, sl st in the next st, sc in the next 14sts, sl st in the last 20 sts. Sl st tog and fasten off. Mark off the 14 sts on both sides with stitch markers. This made it easier to see the triangles as I made them.
Do the following on each side for the triangles...I did from the bigger part up to the point. You are decreasing on each row.
Attach yarn to marker on one of the triangle sides, in the 2nd sc from teh previous row, sc in the next 12sts, turn, ch 1. Next sc in the next 11 sts, ch 1 and turn. Next sc in the next 10 sts, ch 1 and turn. Next sc in the next 9 sts, ch 1 and turn. Next sc in the next 8 sts, ch 1 and turn. Next sc in the next 7 sts, ch 1 and turn. Next sc in the next 6 sts, ch 1 and turn. Next sc in the next 5 sts, ch 1 and turn. Next sc in the next 4 sts, ch 1 and turn. Next sc in the next 3 sts, ch 1 and turn. Next sc in the next 2 sts, ch 1 and turn. Next sc in the next 1 st, turn and ch 32 for the strap. Fasten off and weave in ends. Now repeat these same steps for the other triangle.
I'm learning how to do V-necks and such. This is how I did this top. There might be other ways, but this is just how I could figure out.
Boy Shorts Bottom:
Ch 80, sl st tog to form a ring. Be careful not to twist the chain.
Round 1: Ch 2, in same st hdc. Hdc around in every st. Sl st tog to the first hdc not the ch 2. Do this throughout. It pulls the sts tog so that there are no holes. (The seam will go crooked and that is right. It is how you keep the holes pulled together.)
Rounds 2-13: Repeat Round 1.
Round 14: Ch 2, in same st hdc. (count that as 1 st) Hdc in the next 39 sts, then join to the 1st hdc. This makes the first leg hole.
Round 15: Leg hole: Ch 2, hdc in next st and in every st around. Sl st tog.
Round 16: Leg hole: Ch 1, sc in next st and in every st around. Sl st tog. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Attach yarn to crotch, ch 2, (count that as 1 st) Hdc in the next 39 sts, then join to the 1st hdc. This makes the second leg hole. Repeat Rounds 15 and 16 just like the other leg hole. Fasten off and weave in ends. Now sew up crotch seam.
I use elastic on all my daughter’s clothes. So I take the ¼" elastic, measure it to my daughter and cut it. Then I sew the one end into a circle. Then I sc the elastic to the first row of hdc of the pants. (sc around the elastic not through it) Fasten off and weave in ends. For these swim boy shorts, use the hips for the measurement not the waist.
