I made a crochet square. I used my favorite stitch which is like the V-st but without the ch in the middle. I don't think the pattern stitch matters. Any favorite stitch should work....the square should be approx. 6 1/2" wide by 6" tall.  14 rows high. I didn't edge mine. I folded it lengthwise so it was in thirds and attached Velcro in 3 spots.
